Band students in the 8th-12th grades form our marching band and wind ensemble.
The last two weeks of summer and first quarter of school are devoted primarily to the marching band. Our marching band practices 4 days each week during class with additional rehearsals done 1-2 mornings each week and 1 afternoon each week. The marching band performs at all home football games, all in-town away games, and 2 marching contests each year. In addition they provide support for school events such as pep rallies and the back to school bash. During it's short history the marching band has earned several superior ratings at marching contests and has even won a best in class award.
Once football season ends the band transitions into our premier concert program, the WCA wind ensemble. The wind ensemble performs in a Christmas and spring concert as well as performing at MPA, where they have been rated superior the past two years in a row. The wind ensemble has earned a local reputation of excellence while performing challenging music. There are multiple opportunities for these students to compete individually at the district and state levels. The wind ensemble travels every other year on a retreat where they have bonding and spiritual growth opportunities. On the alternating years they travel to compete in an out of state contest. This past spring the wind ensemble won 1st place in their class at the music in the parks festival in Pigeon Forge, TN.
